Saat berusia 13 tahun, Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) menyaksikan aksi bercinta kakaknya, Cecillia (Keira Knightley) dengan anak tukang kebun, Robbie (James McAvoy). Kejadian berakhir dengan digiringnya Robbie masuk penjara. Beberapa tahun berlalu, Briony (Romola Garai) menjadi wanita muda yang berusaha memperbaiki kesalahannya. 7 nominasi piala Oscar termasuk film terbaik dan pemeran pembantu wanita terbaik.
